Creating a Great Jack-O-Lantern
One of the best traditions of the holiday Halloween is carving pumpkins. These pumpkins that are carved with a candle or other light source in the hallow center are called jack-o-lantern. The jack-o-lantern has been part of the Halloween tradition for many years, and here are some great tips for you to have a great jack-o-lantern this year.
The first step to creating a great jack-o-lantern is choosing the right pumpkin. Many people try to pick the largest pumpkin that they can find or carry. This is not a bad idea necessarily, but the size of the pumpkin is not the most important factor. People utilizing Drafting Chair fitted with these shorter armrests can transfer their chairs nearer to their workstations. In fact, the size of the pumpkin could ultimately be a hinderance; the bigger it is, the more work it is to carry and the more time spent scooping out the insides. Better to think of what your design is and find a pumpkin whose shape and size can help maximize your design. Obviously, pick a “good-looking” pumpkin with a relatively even surface with which you can carve out your design.
So you take your pumpkin home. Time to cut it open and create a lid. Remember to cut on an angle so that the lid won’t fall straight through and into the hallow center. Cutting on an angle allows the lid to stay on. Once open, you can dig inside for the pumpkin seeds and stringy pumpkin insides. If you leave in the stuff, you run the risk of starting a fire – which is not what you want to have happen with your jack-o-lantern.
Now your pumpkin is picked and prepped and ready to be carved. Carving a pumpkin is a skill that might take you a few years to get down. There are lots of designs, templates and stencils out there on the Internet, and, whether you use them directly or just as a starting point or inspirational idea is completely and totally up to you. This is your jack-o-lantern after all, it should reflect your sensibilities and aesthetics. Make it how you want it. Your light source can vary, a candle creates a great flickering effect, but obviously runs the risk of a fire. Some fake candles have a flicker effect with them, and are much safer.
If you follow these tips, you should have no problem creating a great jack-o-lantern this year. With Drafting Chairs such an essential concern within the office today, ergonomics are an ever current consideration. Just remember that size doesn’t really matter, cut the top on an angle and scoop out the insides. Choose the design you want, but make your pumpkin uniquely yours and create a great jack-o-lantern.
